Vegan Spicy Split Pea Patties Recipe

I love simple recipes that require minimal effort but create the ultimate comfort food - this is one of those recipes!

It is a good idea to cook batches of lentils and split peas in advance then leave them in your fridge, ready to whip up into a recipe later in the week.

These split pea patties are flourless and can be formed into patties, falafels or simply left in a loose form - whatever works for you. These are great with some fennel & cardamom infused rice, peppery rocket & creamy avocado making the ultimate buddha bowl!

  • ½ Cup Yellow Split Peas
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • 1 Small Onion
  • Coconut Oil (for cooking)
  • 1 tbsp Tamari
  • 1 tbsp Tahini
  • ⅛ sp Turmeric, Thyme, Smoked Paprika,
  • Generous Pinch of Salt & Pepper
  • Dash of Olive Oil

  • Boil the split peas on a high heat for 10 minutes, then leave to simmer for a further 20 minutes then set aside
  • Whilst the split peas are cooking dice the onion, garlic and chilli
  • Add the onion and chilli to a pan on a medium heat and gently fry in the coconut oil until softened then add the garlic and cook for a further 1 minute
  • Add the dried spices to the pan and cook for a few minutes longer
  • In a mixing bowl, add the cooked split peas fried onion & spices
  • Add the tamari, tahini and a dash more smoked paprika, the salt & pepper and mix together
  • Using a fork slightly mash the split peas to make a paste then form into 8 patties
  • Place the pan used for cooking the onion back on the hob with a dash more coconut oil, then once the pan is nice and hot add the patties
  • Cook on each side for 3-4 minutes until they are turning golden
  • Enjoy with a side salad, in a burger, or stuffed into toasted pittas!
